United Community Banks Completes Merger With Peach State Bancshares
UCB finalized its acquisition of Peach State Bancshares on Aug. 1, absorbing Peach State Bank & Trust into its banking subsidiary.
United Community Banks, Inc. (NYSE: UCB) has closed its acquisition of Peach State Bancshares, Inc., with the deal taking effect August 1, 2026. Under the terms of the transaction, Peach State Bancshares ceased to exist as a standalone entity, merging directly into United Community Banks, which emerged as the surviving corporation. The move reflects United's continued appetite for expanding its southeastern footprint through targeted acquisitions.
The structural integration went one step further immediately after the parent-company merger was finalized. Peach State Bank & Trust, the wholly-owned banking subsidiary of Peach State Bancshares, was simultaneously folded into United Community Bank, United's own bank subsidiary. That rapid subsidiary consolidation is a common playbook in community-bank M&A, designed to simplify the legal and regulatory structure as quickly as possible while back-office conversion work continues on a longer timeline.

For customers of Peach State Bank & Trust, the transition will be gradual rather than abrupt. United Community Banks says that core systems, branch signage, and all customer-facing branding are not expected to convert to the United Community identity until the first quarter of 2027. That roughly six-month window is typical for community-bank integrations, giving technology and operations teams time to migrate accounts and train staff without disrupting day-to-day banking services.
The completion of this deal adds another chapter to United Community Banks' growth story in the South. By absorbing a Georgia-based institution like Peach State Bank & Trust — whose name signals deep local roots — United deepens its presence in a high-growth market while gaining existing customer relationships. Investors will be watching whether the integration timeline holds and how successfully United retains Peach State's deposit base through the branding transition next year.
