The backbone of this push is the Airbus A321XLR, a next-generation single-aisle aircraft purpose-built for extended transatlantic range. The XLR — shorthand for Extra Long Range — allows airlines to profitably fly thinner routes that would otherwise require filling a widebody plane to justify operating costs.
